The 2016 Conference on Impunity comprises three major components.

The first is a series of classroom seminars offered at The Graduate Center by a leading Haitian expert on impunity to pre-registered doctoral students and faculty across several disciplines. These seminars will be held in February and March 2016.

The second is a weeklong open forum/ exhibit. Two weeks before the Colloquium, the participants and the public are invited to revisit the permanent online exhibit and the online material, including our partners’ external links, related to the Seminar and to the ongoing discussion on Impunity, and to offer feedback, submit commentaries and ask questions via the Seminar page on the HPFI website. The questions will be addressed by other visitors, commentators and by moderators. A general overview/ summary of this input by participating scholars and the public at large via the forum will constitute the introductory presentation of the Colloquium and will be displayed online as a working document.

The third and concluding event is a large-scale colloquium on March 17 and 18 to wrap up the Seminar. Scholars, Haitian and foreigners, from the US and abroad, are invited to continue the conversation begun from the viewpoint of Haitian scholars, activists and artists in March 2014. The content of these previous sessions can be accessed online on the HPFI website and will form the basis for a continued discussion at the colloquium. Papers will be invited to address the various components of Impunity in their conceptualization and their impact in the context of Haiti’s post-colonial 19th century to the present day.

This conference is organized with the support of FOKAL / OSF-Haiti (Fondasyon Konesans Ak Libète / Open Society Foundation-Haiti) and is free and open to the public.

The Colloquium
DAY 1 (March 17th, 2016). Venue: The City College of New York, CUNY

• Presentation and discussion of the summary of input on the whole seminar by participating scholars and the public at large via the online forum.

• Book (Haiti de la dictature à la démocratie Colloquium proceedings) presentation and signing

• Documentary projection: Arnold Antonin, film on Jacques Stephen Alexis, followed by Q&A with moderator.

DAY 2 (March 18th, 2016). Venue: The Graduate Center, CUNY

• Keynote addresses.
